The Aging & Mental Health Symposium, held on Friday, February 23, 2024, brought together a group of leading scientists to explore and share groundbreaking research and discoveries on the intersection of cognitive aging and psychiatric disease.
The event, hosted at UT Southwestern Medical Center’s T. Boone Pickens Biomedical Building, served as a platform for more than 70 scientists, researchers, and students to engage in collaborative discussions and thoughtful question-and-answer sessions.
“I enjoyed hearing multiple perspectives and approaches to a related topic. I also appreciated the diversity of the audience in terms of age and professional background,” said one of the attendees.
The symposium kicked off with a keynote address by Philip Harvey from the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, a renowned psychiatry and behavioral sciences expert. His presentation on Aging in Schizophrenia: Challenges and Opportunities for Brain Health Interventions set the tone for an intellectually stimulating event.
The subsequent speakers included Anila D’Mello from the University of Texas at Dallas and UT Southwestern Medical Center presenting Evaluating Perceptual Processing in Autistic Adults, and Jerilyn Kent from the University of Texas at Dallas presenting Investigating the Effect of Age in Individuals with Psychotic Disorders and Their First-Degree Relatives in Psychosis Human Connectome Project Data.
The symposium concluded with Dr. Elena Ivleva from the UT Southwestern Medical Center and Dr. Kristen Kennedy from the University of Texas at Dallas describing their ongoing research project Cognitive and Brain-Based Biomarkers along the Lifespan: Interface of Normal Aging and Schizophrenia.
This symposium is hosted biannually by the CVL, alternating with the Dallas Aging and Cognition Conference. If you would like to learn more about our events, click below.
